Ginger Zee Opens Up About Her Suicide Attempts In The Past
Ginger Zee revealed that she had attempted to commit suicide in the past and shared an important message to her followers during the National Suicide Prevention Week. The 39-year-old television personality took Instagram to share an old picture of her on Sept. 11 and disclosed how depressed she felt after she attempted suicide for the second time.
The ABC meteorologist wrote a powerful caption along with the picture on her social media and said that this picture is heartbreaking for her as it was her first job on television. She mentioned WEYI TV, which is an NBC affiliated TV channel and operated under Sinclair Broadcast Group.
She described her own picture and revealed that it was a "forced smile" on her face. The picture was taken after she attempted suicide for the second time while she also admitted that no one in the office had any clue about it. Zee pat on her back for being master at covering such issues related to her mental health. She mentioned that the person she hid such problems most was no one else but herself.
"It is #suicidepreventionweek and I often wonder if there is anything I could go back and say to myself the morning I tried to take my own life. I don’t know if I would have been ready to hear it - I don’t know if this message will help — but I feel it is my duty to talk about it — because I was lucky. Beyond the luck, I had the support and financial ability to get the help I needed to treat my mental health issues. Not everyone has that," she explained.
Zee highly encouraged her followers to seek immediate help and take the matter seriously in case they get any suicidal thoughts. She urged people to act immediately and get help on an urgent basis. She further explained how the nearby hospital can help you get the right kind of medication or therapy that is necessary for your mental health.
She also referred to the Child Mind Institute as she concluded her message. The institute is based in New York since 2009 and consists of great resources to help not only parents but also children. The media personality has always been outspoken about her struggles in the past. She also admitted herself to a hospital in order to get a cure for her depression in 2011. She also spoke with Robin Roberts of Good Morning America and discussed mental health in detail.
