Prince Harry Faces Backlash For Not Following Royal Protocol With Netflix Deal
Prince Harry recently faced backlash for not following royal protocol before he and Meghan Markle signed a multiyear deal with Netflix.
According to WHO, it is customary for members of the royal family – estranged or not – to inform Queen Elizabeth about their commercial opportunities. But sources revealed that the Duke of Sussex didn’t inform Her Majesty about the deal beforehand.
Prince Harry and Markle released a statement announcing their partnership with Netflix. They said that they will be producing inspirational content for the streaming giant.
“Our lives, both independent of each other, and as a couple have allowed us to understand that power of the human spirit. Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope. As new parents, making inspirational family programming is important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens,” they said.
A source told Variety that Prince Harry and Markle have found huge commercial success without actually looking like they’re getting their hands dirty and still maintaining their popularity.
Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are already facing problems with their Netflix deal. They recently canceled the fundraising event for Invictus Games Foundation that was expected to rake in $1.8 million.
Netflix’s competitor, Amazon was scheduled to air the music and comedy show on their streaming platform next year.
A lawyer pulled the plug on the partnership by saying that there is a conflict of plans. And a source told Sunday Times said that it was only recently that Prince Harry decided to cancel his involvement with the Invictus Games Foundation.
“Harry said yes to doing this last year and everything was still moving forward until a few weeks ago. This was going to be a big moment for Invictus, and it has left them in the lurch,” a source said.
But an insider from the Invictus Games Foundation said that the cancelation didn’t have anything to do with Prince Harry’s new deal with Netflix. Rather, it was canceled due to health concerns due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In related news, Prince Harry also received backlash for planting forget-me-nots, Princess Diana’s favorite flower on her death anniversary.
While the flower planting activity paved the way for a good photo op, some residents complained that the crowds disrupted their normal lives.
