TV series come and go in the media industry, with the turnover of shows getting faster and faster nowadays, it's hard for shows that have been on air for some time to keep up. The TV series, ‘The Walking Dead’, has been aired for over a decade already and has created a cult following with its exciting storyline and characters. 

But like all shows, the TV series will come to an end, and unfortunately, news has just come out that the production team for ‘The Walking Dead’ is no longer working on the 12th season. 

Right now, ‘The Walking Dead’ is on its 10th season, with six more episodes to be aired but AMC has already announced that the 11th season will be the last for the show. 

In a statement released by AMC, they highlighted that they are truly sad that ‘The Walking Dead’ is coming to an end. The company also stated that the 11th season will run for two years, and is said to have 24 episodes. 

The show which aired back in October 2010, with the first season only having seven episodes. The story follows Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), a sheriff battling hoards of zombies, together with his wife and son. 

The 1st season of the show gathered so much praise but in the second season, the original creator of the series left. The series was then criticized to be very different from the 1st season. 

Numerous spin-offs have also been created from the original ‘The Walking Dead’, with its first spin-off appearing after the 6th season. Another spin-off was also created, wherein it follows a group of teenagers who grew up during the zombie apocalypse. 

Despite ‘The Walking Dead’ series ending, the show's creators have revealed that a spin-off focused on the longest-surviving characters is in the making. This will follow characters, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride). 

There is also news that a possible movie trilogy based on ‘The Walking Dead’ series will also be in the works, but this has yet to be confirmed by AMC. 

‘The Walking Dead’ fans will surely be saddened by this news, after a decade long run on TV and creating one of the most die-hard fan community, ‘The Walking Dead’ will go down as a legend in TV history. 

The show has been often cited to have created the new modern story for zombie shows and films and has made the characters in the series a household name.
