Taylor Swift Joins Lady Gaga's Coronavirus Concert Special
Taylor Swift continues to do her part in helping fight the ongoing coronavirus pandemic by joining the concert special organized by Lady Gaga. The World Health Organization and its COVID-19 solidarity fund will be the concert’s beneficiary.
The New York Post reports that the organization Global Citizen has announced that Swift, Shawn Mendes, Jennifer Lopez, Alicia Keys, Pharrell, Usher, Sam Smith, and Camilla Cabello are new additions to the “One World: Together At Home” concert that aims to be a celebration of community health workers. Global Citizen, along with Lady Gaga, said that the concert is not a fundraiser as they will raise the money before the concert airs.
Before the addition of Swift and company, other musicians that were confirmed to be participating include Lady Gaga, Andrea Bocelli, Kacey Musgraves, Lizzo, Elton John, John Legend, Chris Martin, Eddie Vedder, Billie Joe Armstrong, Burna Boy, Paul McCartney, Maluma, J Balvin, Keith Urban, Billie Eilish, Finneas, and Stevie Wonder.
Aside from musicians, ComingSoon also reports that personalities like Oprah Winfrey, Lupita Nyong’o, Amy Poehler, Victoria Beckham, Matthew McConaughey, Awkwafina, LL Cool J, and Ellen DeGeneres.
Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, and Jimmy Kimmel will share hosting duties, with the special aired on Apr. 18 on most digital music platforms as well as ABC, The CW, CBS, BBC, RTE, AXS TV, MultiChoice Group, NBC, Bell Media, beIN Media Group, iHeartMeida, and ViacomCBS Networks.
“One World: Together At Home,” is the latest benefit concert being held as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Elton John’s “Living Room Concert for America” featured performances from Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, H.E.R., Alicia Keys, and more and was also able to raise $8 million for the organizations Feeding America and the First Responders Children’s Foundation.
Swift herself has already been donating to Feeding America even before her participation in Elton John’s benefit concert. She made her work with Feeding America known after her feud with Kim Kardashian was reignited by a leaked online video.
The whole world can definitely use all the help that it can get as the coronavirus pandemic does not show any signs of slowing down. The World Health Organization situation report for Apr. 14 revealed that confirmed COVID-19 cases are now at 1,844,863 people. The COVID-10 fatalities now number at 117,021 people.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention puts the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the United States at 579,005 people. There are now 22,252 people that have died from the coronavirus in the United States.
