Sussex Shock: Full Payment Of Frogmore Signals ‘Divorce’ From Royal Firm – ‘No More Pretence’
Harry and Meghan Markle’s current situation has pushed the Royal family to think twice about their treatment of the couple. The decision of Harry and Meghan to leave their royal duties last January 2020 was a cultural reset for the British Monarchy. The couple cited that the circumstances within the family was no longer a safe environment, Harry and Meghan also talked about becoming ‘financially independent’ from the royal family.
According to sources, Harry is now finally free from all debt from the royal family, giving him the freedom to use his platform as he wants.
The Frogmore cottage refurbishment is one of the last obligations the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had to the royal family. It came down to them having to pay the cost of the renovations of the cottage, which were $3 million.
During the announcement of the couple that they were going to step down as senior royals, a summit was called by the Queen, dubbed as the Sandringham Summit.
The summit was attended by senior royals and had the agenda of the stakes of Harry and Meghan’s exit. The royals agreed that the Frogmore Cottage refurbishments cost were to be paid by the couple at $24,000 monthly for 11 years.
But due to the ludicrous deal Harry and Meghan struck with Netflix, the couple was able to pay their debt to the British citizen.
The deal, which saw Harry and Meghan being paid with $150 million for a multiyear contract lead the couple to be financially free from the royals.
Daily Mail columnist, Richard Kay claims that the sum paid by the couple means that there is no royal future for the Duke and Duchess and that the ‘pretence is over’.
"One well-placed source said that the money had always been a sore spot for Harry, who - rightly or wrongly - felt that it was used as a means of controlling him by members of his own family, and by the media. Harry made it very clear from the start that he wanted to repay that money because he felt that if he handed it back then no-one would have the right to control him”, Kay wrote on the Mail.
He continued to write that the full payment done for the Frogmore renovation signaled the ‘divorce’ between the Sussex’s and the royal family.
Royal experts believe that Harry always felt that he was controlled by the Monarchy through money matters, citing that a major reason why he and Meghan left was because of their financial status.
