Meghan Markle and Prince Harry came to the US to live their lives on their terms and on their own entirely. However, in the initial days, this didn’t prove to be as convenient as it was thought to be by the royal pair.

As the Sussexes stepped down as the senior working royals, they lost a major source of their income. No doubt, living a life in the city of Los Angeles is a costly affair and the Sussex pair wasn’t financially prepared to take that up.

In such a dire situation, a father comes to rescue. According to reports, Harry’s father the Prince of Wales took the responsibility for his son’s finances and expenditure early on.

The Sussexes bought a luxurious $14.7 house in the celebrity hotspot of Los Angeles, Santa Barbara with financial aid from Prince Charles. With support from the royal house insider, their liberty was under the question, therefore the Sussexes were looking for a solid source of income that may give them that sort of financial back-up. Of late, the royal pair has shown it through payments.

On Monday, the royal pair paid back the money to the Sovereign Grant (UK government’s taxpayer-supported fund in support of Queen Elizabeth and her family).

Additionally, the couple also paid off the $3 million renovation costs to their Frogmore Cottage home in Windsor. Although those close to the Sussexes have denied any payment of taxes from Prince Charles on their behalf.

The couple’s spokesperson said in a statement that the Duke of Sussex has made a contribution to the Sovereign Grant. According to the spokesperson, the contribution encompasses the estate/property of the Queen, the important renovation costs of Frogmore Cottage, and will remain the U.K. residence of the Duke and family.

The PEOPLE has reported that the Sussex pair has eventually achieved financial security and is no longer dependent on the royal family for finances.

It must not come as a surprise as it comes after the couple signed a big multi-year deal with the streaming platform Netflix. The deal is worth a multi-million dollar. The royal pair are now producers and will be producing documentaries, series, and scripted dramas for years which is an indication that the Duke and Duchess have set themselves very well in the country.

All considered, the move to the US has proved to be very successful and has turned out just the way they desired.
