Here's The Reason Why Queen Elizabeth Has To Stay With Prince Philip Amid The Coronavirus Outbreak
Queen Elizabeth II is currently living at Windsor Castle with her husband Prince Philip. Know why she cannot leave Philip alone at their royal residence.
The 93-year-old Queen reunited with her 98-year-old husband at Windsor Castle. The duo even spent a quiet Easter holiday this year together. While the Queen reached here on March 19 after traveling from Buckingham Palace, Philip arrived from Sandringham where he has been living since 2017.
The royal couple reunited before their planned date of arrival and is also scheduled to live at Windsor Castle for a longer duration. The reason for this change of plan was the outbreak of COVID-19 in the United Kingdom. The virus has infected thousands of people and there have been over 11,000 casualties in Britain alone.
The monarch and her husband are staying isolated at Windsor Castle because of their advanced age. Their age puts them at a high risk to contract this severe pandemic. The royal schedule has had several other changes while the country is struggling to cope up with the coronavirus attack, Express reports.
As Queen Elizabeth II moved to Windsor, a statement was released by the Buckingham Palace mentioning that several alterations are being introduced to The Queen’s diary. The rescheduling was done for practical reasons and as a precautionary step.
It is because of the coronavirus scare that the Royal Family had an uneventful Easter celebration this year. Typically, the entire family comes together and celebrates the occasion at Windsor Castle, which could not happen in 2020.
The Queen along with her dear family members usually participates in a traditional church service at St. George’s Chapel on Easter Sunday. However, this year was an exception for the reasons mentioned above.
Queen Elizabeth has been married to Prince Philip for over 70 years now. It makes their marriage the longest one in the sovereign’s history. The Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen are extremely private persons and rarely discuss their relationship publicly.
They do not believe in the public display of affection and there is little exposure to their day-to-day lives. Redbookmag.com reports how the Queen wrote a letter once mentioning the time when she first met her husband.
Philip was then known as Philip Mountbatten. The Queen mentioned in her letter that the duo met for the first time in July 1939 at the Royal Naval College.
She was only 13-year-old at that time and immediately fell for the handsome Philip, who was 18-year-old at that time. It is reported that Prince Philip was keeping Queen Elizabeth and her sister company. He allegedly tried to impress her by hopping over the tennis nets.
