Princess Diana's Misery: Did Prince Charles Groom Diana To Be His Wife? Real Age Gap Revealed!
One of the most famous events that had happened within the Royal family, the wedding ceremony between the heir apparent, Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. The wedding was watched by over a billion people all over the world. It was dubbed as a fairytale wedding and the late Princess Diana was said to have been the most beautiful bride that year.
But what is the story behind the couple, how did a Prince Charles meet the ever so beautiful Lady Diana.
The real story begins with Charles dating Diana’s older sister at that time. The Prince was invited over as part of the hunting party for the summers and it was said that the Prince was immediately swept off his feet when he met the young Diana.
Their first meeting was when Diana was only 16 years of age, and Prince Charles was 28 years old. The age gap between them was a big problem at that time, but Charles did not start dating Lady Diana until she was 18 years old.
The two got married when Diana was 20 and the Prince at 32. This was not the first time that a huge age gap was between a couple in the royal family, but this was concerning.
It was said that due to Diana’s young age when she married into Royalty, it became difficult for her to adjust.
Andrew Morton, royal biographer and author of ‘Diana: Her True Story’, wrote on his book that, “She [Diana] was absolutely miserable and she felt she was like a prisoner of the palace. She felt she needed to speak out. I put my headphones on, switched on the tape recorder, and out came this cascade of emotion. She was speaking like a prisoner in a cell who just had a few minutes to get the story out. There was talk of her misery, of her unhappiness. It was totally, utterly shocking. I felt like I’d entered a parallel universe.”
The marriage between Diana and Charles ended bitterly in 1996. Both of the parties were said to have cheated on each other and that the entirety of the marriage was just the two ignoring each other.
Their divorce was ordered by the Queen as mounting unhappiness between the two parties was seeping into the media. And in 1996 the divorce was finalized. Not a year later, Princess Diana passed away after a horrific car crash in Paris.
Diana is remembered as the ‘People’s Princess’ and is still a big part of the popularity of the royal family. She is survived by her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
