Chadwick Boseman Gets Honored At Community Event In South Carolina
Chadwick Boseman who hails from Anderson in South Carolina has been honored at a community event. The 43-year-old actor who died on Aug. 28 due to cancer and recently has been celebrated for his legacy in his hometown.
The town gave a farewell to the late actor on Sept. 3 by hosting an event at an outdoor amphitheater. Terence Roberts, Mayor of Anderson spoke with ET and informed that the community event was held in Boseman's honor.
Mayor Roberts’ office confirmed that the event held was done under the safety protocols that include wearing masks and keeping a physical distance from one another due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, the venue capacity of the event was kept only 50 percent and the tickets were available on a "first-come, first-served basis".
The community event began as the mayor addressed the attendees and also featured Boseman-themed artwork by local artists. The attendees were initially made acquainted with Rev. Deacon Mary Jeffers to honor the late star, which was followed by Deanna Brown Thomas, daughter of James Brown.
Thomas spoke about Boseman and recalled when he visited their family in Augusta, Georgia. The 51-year-old composer said that there was nothing "Hollywood" about the late actor, which was the best thing about him.
"This is your family’s history, this is important to your family and your family's future. So we gotta get this right, we gotta put as much truth to this as we can,” she revealed Boseman said to her son. Boseman played James Brown on-screen in Get On Up in 2014.
Brown Thomas said that Boseman didn't had an impact on Black kids but also on all races and addressed him as a "King". There were several local artists in the town who performed at the event before Dr. Sam Neely opened up about Boseman performing as a child.
At the end of the event, there was a special screening for one of the most memorable films, Black Panther. The outlet was informed before that the town is planning to honor Boseman further and that will be prolonged.
The officials of the Anderson city have already started to create an enduring tribute for Boseman and for the same, the members will hold a meeting on Sept. 4. One of the representatives disclosed that the idea is to create a grand attraction for the public that will allow local artists to utilize their skills without any restrictions.
