Election Twister: Donald Trump’s Approval Rating Is Steadily Improving
America may be stacking up negative reviews about President Donald Trump’s entire tenure, but as the election day is nearing a slight turnaround in the polls has been observed.
Throughout the bulk of election campaigns, Trump’s opponent and presidential candidate Joe Biden has led the polls. In fact, Biden is still far ahead of Trump in terms of approval, but President’s steady improvement in approval and popularity may be a reason of worry for Biden.
YouGov's latest approval polling which was conducted on 1000 randomly chosen people, displays a jump of 4 percent in Trump’s overall approval. The approval numbers surged from 42 percent to 46 percent in the recent poll conducted on August 30.
In addition to that, Emerson's separate polling results also showed an upward moving graph in favor of the President. Conducted between August 30 to August 31, the Emerson survey involved 1567 participants who have produced numbers that suggest Trump has improved with 4 points.
That also means that Trump and Biden are so close in the cut-throat competition that they may even end up tying the race for the White House. At least this is what the tightness of polls suggests.
This improvement was much needed for the President as due to his coronavirus mismanagement or blunder, his approval ratings had plunged down to only 40 percent from above 50 percent in the earlier polls.
According to FiveThirtyEight's election tracker, a month ago, Biden was 8 points ahead of Trump in the average ratings, but this month the number has slipped down to 7. The quest for the possible reason for this change in the nature of polls leads us to Trump’s performance in the convention.
Clearly, some voters have turned up for Trump in recent weeks. It may be that Trump’s convention efforts are responsible for the improvements.
Despite being awfully lengthy and full of furious remarks on Biden, Trump’s convention speech marked the first time during the campaigns that Trump attracted some positive attention - some wrote in favor of the President expressing their faith in him. That can be attributed to his strong comments about the country’s essence and future.
Does that mean Trump is going to lead in the coming weeks? Not necessarily. The polls are quite dynamic, changing every now and then. The country stands at a very fragile point where violence is rampant and a crisis looms around.
The wave may turn in any direction and it’s very crucial for the President to bring situations back to normal in order to stand a chance.
