Demi Lovato Talks About Racial Injustice And Pandemic
Demi Lovato has been actively using her social media accounts in order to speak up for the ongoing protest, Black Lives Matter. The 28-year-old singer is well-informed about her presentation of the internet and how she has been utilizing the same.
In an issue released on Sept. 2 for Vogue, the singer and actress opened up about her growth year and "newfound activism". She also spoke about the racial injustice battle and the coronavirus pandemic affect.
Lovato said that considering the entire 2020 that everyone has witnessed so far, it feels that everyone has experienced a change in their life. She admitted that this is the most essential time for people to come forward to spread awareness regarding important issues.
The Princess Protection Program star said that it is not supposed to be mental health that everyone considers but there are more issues that need to be addressed. While she revealed how she has been utilizing social media platforms to spread the much-needed awareness, she disclosed the causes that need attention.
The multi-talented star acknowledged the fact that her relationship online was typical prior to lockdown. The singer admitted that if anyone scrolls down her timeline, all they will see if pictures of her and glamour shots.
"But then there’s this sudden shift around the time Ahmaud Arbery was killed. Now my feed is filled with information about racial injustice and what we can do to help," she explained. The singer further explained that she has always taken activities such as advocacy earnestly. However, she has been looking forward to renewing her focus.
When asked about her motivation to get into advocacy, she explained that it was a curiosity to learn how much career she owns to the Black culture. She mentioned several soulful singers such as Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin who inspired her to become a singer.
Lovato admitted that she received inspiration and motivation from all these powerful Black women and the reason she has success, house, money and everything she needs is because of them. She continued that Black people inspire her on a daily basis and it turned out to be a "lightning bolt" in her body that evoked her privilege.
Lovato said that 2020 has been an important year for her. She wants to focus more on her music along with advocacy. She concluded her interview and said that she wants to leave this place being a better person referring to her death. She encouraged her fans and followers to be more hopeful about a better future.
