Miley Cyrus' 'Midnight Sky' Performance At The VMAs Bottles Up A Nostalgic Twist
Miley Cyrus hopped on a hanging disco ball during her 2020 MTV Video Music Awards performance on Aug. 30. The Grammy-nominated singer struck her first live performance of her new song, 'Midnight Sky,' which is a sultry disco track released on Aug. 14.
She kicked off her performance of her new song with a gorgeous two-toned aesthetic.
But suddenly, the mood changed as she loomed in the distance with the disco ball, and she whipped off her skirt, living up to his signature of changing costumes in between her performances. Then, she recreated an iconic moment. It shows intense looks, swinging, and thrusting, making it the perfect awe to the original 'Wrecking Ball' music video back in 2013.
Furthermore, the Disney alum performed her latest single in New York City for the socially distanced awards show. The singer amazed the crowd as she wore a Mugler number while walking at the show's red carpet.
This year's VMAs marks the second successive year that Miley performed a newly single life for the first time. Fans reminiscence her 2019 performance of the song 'Slide Away' that tags along in an emotional tune about her relationship with ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth.
Though the performance ended with a sentimental bang, the bulk of the set featured Cyrus doing what she does best, allowing her powerhouse vocals to take center stage.
On the other hand, 'Midnight Sky' is about a divorce song from her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth. With the release of her newest record, Cyrus proves that she is back and better than ever. Also, it ends her fans' several long months of awaiting new music from their idol.
The song allows its listeners to revisit Cyrus and Hemsworth's relationship record, spending an entire decade making up, breaking up, and getting back together. But now that they are over, the controversial singer feels freer than she's ever felt.
Cryus sentiments and explanation of the said song were yelled out by the singer herself at the 'Zach Sang Show.' She revealed that the song is a reflection of any personal wake moment. "And you know, the midnight sky, I think, is kind of a road that feels like it would be nice to take with our head up in the clouds," she added.
Moreover, the singer said that in releasing the songs, it allows her to send a "cool" message to the people that say creating the environment and the world they aspire to live in is acceptable.
