Meghan Markle's Secret Skill That Helped Her Make Extra Cash In Hollywood
The Duchess of Sussex’s acting skills need no introduction. Meghan Markle, at the peak of her career, was one of the most popular TV actors in the country. But that’s not all to her, she has a variety of talents, as a matter of fact - and one of those helped her make some extra cash while making efforts to make it big in the industry.
During one of her gigs at Paper Source, a small custom stationery shop in Beverly Hills, Meghan developed a hobby for calligraphy. Her love for calligraphy encouraged her to hone up her calligraphic skills – which helped her get more gigs as a calligrapher - writing wedding and party invitations for Hollywood personalities.
In 2018, the Duchess revealed that she learned calligraphy as a young girl discovering her cursive writing talent while attending an all-girls Catholic school.
Speaking about why she picked up calligraphy, the 39-year-old said, "I went to an all-girls Catholic school for like six years during the time when kids actually had handwriting class. I’ve always had a propensity for getting the cursive down pretty well. What it evolved into was my pseudo-waitressing job when I was auditioning. I didn't wait tables. I did calligraphy."
Going by Meghan’s words, it's certain that she backed herself up financially with calligraphy during her struggle days in Hollywood.
Well, she has even got a highlight for her resume – during her time as a freelance calligrapher, Meghan put her calligraphic skills to use for Robin Thicke and Paula Patton’s 2005 wedding invitations.
Her customers were flattered by the quality of her work, during a 2018 interview with Town & Country, Paula said that Meghan was so generous and the work she produced didn’t have a single mistake, it was “impeccable.” Paula added on to say that she liked her work and was in complete awe of her skill as a calligrapher.
So much so that after her wedding, Paula and Meghan went to become very good friends.
Meghan Markle is living with her husband Prince Harry in the newly-bought Santa Barbara house. Although she plans to get back to work like before, she hasn’t expressed her intentions to be back on screen as an actor.
It’s encouraging that Meghan is back in the town. According to the reports, she is looking for the right opportunity in the industry. Fans, probably won’t get to see her calligraphy talent, but they certainly may get to be mesmerized with her acting skills again.
