Joe Exotic Series Starring Kate McKinnon Set To Air On NBC, Peacock, And USA Network
The heinous crimes of Joe Exotic brought to him the beam of infamy like no other. Since the reality of Exotic’s life in the background of his primary job came to light, media is involved in discovering bits of his life that are yet unknown to general people. Also, a part of that is the entertainment industry.
According to what Variety has reported, the upcoming series based on the Tiger King starring Kate McKinnon has received a multi-platform order from NBCUniversal. What that means is that the series will run on three different platforms Peacock, NBC, and USA Network.
McKinnon will play as Carole Baskin, an animal lover who is known for her intense feud with Joe Exotic.
The decision to air the series across the newly-launched streaming platform and two main English-language linear networks is a part of the effort to get the upper hand in the streaming wars.
NBCU has recently done a reorientation of its plans to improve its streamer’s performance. The troubles of Joe Exotic with Carole Baskin were most famously documented and presented through Netflix’s sensational docuseries Tiger King. Immediately after its debut, the series became the streaming platform’s one of the hottest products, drawing an estimated audience of 34.3 million in the first 10 days.
One different Exotic series at Peacock means viewers are bound to do the comparisons and calculations with counterpart's projects. Tiger King has set the bar so high, so contributors of Joe Exotic are definitely going to try to go up a notch to be a cut above rest.
Currently title Joe Exotic, the project was first announced in the month of November last year. As a part of his deal with series producer Universal Content Productions (UCP), Etan Frankel will steer the project as executive producer and writer.
Frankel has plenty of experience in judging the strength of stories and giving them a good shape, his credits range from the Epix series Get Shorty, Animal Kingdom, Friday Night Lights, to Shameless.
McKinnon will also executive produce the project alongside Frankel, UCP, Wondery’s Hernan Lopez, Marshall Levy, and Aaron Hart.
The release date has yet not been set, but considering the amount of news floating around about the series, it’s not wrong to expect it towards the end of the year or someplace in early 2021. More details will come about as promotions begin. Multiple Joe Exotic projects are in the works, it's tough to stand out.
