A publication reported that actor Johnny Depp is asking for a whopping $50million to work again in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Read on to know the complete story.

A magazine attacked the actor a few months ago with a scathing headline “Jack Sparrow Eats Crow!” The outlet alleges that the actor is cash-starved and wished to join the movie series once again.

It seems Depp changed his mind especially as his legal situation is not good. Some unnamed sources told the outlet that there is no progress in the actor’s career either and his savings are shrinking.

At the same time, the insider contended that The Lone Ranger star needs cash so badly that he would only rejoin if his contract is big. The statement does not make much sense and is not even explained. The article further says the Alice in Wonderland star would act in the film series if he gets a paycheck of $50 million. Incidentally, this amount is identical to the sum stated in his defamation lawsuits.

The source then went on to say the actor is expecting that Disney would realize their mistake and ask him to do at least another film. As there has been news of the reboot film, he feels his purpose is solved and wants Disney to give him the fee he is asking for, Cinema Blend reports.

There is nothing wrong with the story when one reads it initially because it has elements to make it believable. However, a close look at the figures makes one realize that the report is silly. After all, for the 2011 Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the actor was given a hefty paycheck of $55 million.

So, isn’t it strange nine years down the line, the actor whose legal position seems to be better, is asking for a lesser amount for what seems to be a more ambitious project?

Also, as far as Johnny Depp’s desperation for lack of projects is concerned, he had two releases this year - Waiting for the Barbarians and Minamata. A third Fantastic Beasts film is slated to release next year.

As such, even this part of the story where it has been hinted that the actor does not have any work does not make sense. Is there a possibility that the publication mentioned an amount of $50 million just because a similar amount has been referred to in his lawsuits?

While the magazine insinuated that Johnny Depp simply looks at his role as a fee, he is known for his humanitarian efforts and charity work. As such, there is nothing in this report, which seems to be based on reality, Gossip Cop reports.
