Brandy and Monica sang a smash hit back in 1998 with The Boy Is Mine and now the two divas are back together to take part in Verzuz battle that Brandy has already labeled historical.

People reports that Brandy, 41, and Monica, 39, will be facing off on Instagram and Apple Music as part of the ongoing Verzuz battles that started in March of this year.

The official Verzuz Instagram heralded the match-up with a caption calling the two artists queens, while Brandy called it history, thanked the people behind the scenes that made the whole thing possible and asked everyone to celebrate.

Monica, meanwhile, echoed Brandy’s sentiments that the match-up would be historical and said it was an honor. The singer also asked her followers if they had any songs they would like to hear from the two R&B divas.

Life & Style also provided a short rundown of the history shared between Brandy and Monica because of the Billboard number one hit The Boy Is Mine. Since the song features two women fighting over a man, rumors have long circulated that the feud also extended to Brandy and Monica themselves.

The publication says that while both Brandy and Monica have long maintained that they are on good terms, music producer Dallas Austin claimed in 2019 that Brandy physically assaulted Monica at the backstage of the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards. The producer also claims that both singers recorded their parts separately and did not meet face-to-face.

Life & Style also provided a rundown of what Verzuz is, saying that it began with hip hop artist Swizz and rapper Timbaland due to the boredom brought by the global coronavirus pandemic. The Verzuz battles have now featured a number of hip hop and R&B stars.

Some of the stars that have taken part in the battles include T-Pain and Lil Jon, Erykah Badu and Jill Scott, Nelly and Ludacris, Alicia Keys, John Legend, DMX Snoop Dogg with Rick Ross and 2 Chainz being the most recent ones to take part.

It is likely that there will be even more Verzuz battles in the future as it does not look like the global coronavirus pandemic will be slowing down anytime soon. In the United States alone, there are 5,643,812 confirmed COVID-19 cases, as per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s update for Aug. 23. Deaths caused by COVID-19 are now at 175,651 people.

As for the rest of the world, the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 dashboard shows that as of Aug. 23, there are now 23,057,288 confirmed COVID-19 cases. There are now 800,906 people that have died from COVID-19 worldwide.
