Meghan Markle Allegedly Wanted An Expensive Wedding Gown, Changed Her Mind Because She’s Paying For It
Meghan Markle has been at the center of rumors since she and Prince Harry started dating.
Before the couple tied the knot in 2018, Life & Style claimed that the Duchess of Sussex was a diva and that she’s also materialistic.
In fact, they claimed that Markle wanted to wear an expensive wedding gown for her wedding. And some of her top designer of choice was Elie Saab and J. Mendel.
But when Markle walked out of her car on her wedding day, her dress proved to be anything but. The Suits alum donned a simple wedding dress designed by Claire Waight Keller.
In fact, the dress was so simple that a lot of royal fans compared it with the gown that Kate Middleton wore in 2011.
According to reports, Middleton and her family were the ones that paid for her wedding gown. And Markle followed in her sister-in-law’s footsteps by shouldering the cost of her wedding down.
The cost of Markle’s gown was estimated between $110,000 and $500,000. Middleton’s gown, on the other hand, was priced at over $400,000.
It seems that the tabloid was trying to say that Markle wanted to wear a pricey wedding gown only if she’s not the one that will cover the cost. But after learning about the protocols, she, allegedly, opted to wear something simpler and cheaper.
However, this isn’t entirely the case. Even though the royal family didn’t pay for Markle’s wedding gown, they still shouldered a huge chunk of her wedding cost.
The royal family paid for Prince Harry and Markle’s wedding reception, flowers, music, decoration, and church service.
Meanwhile, there were other rumors surrounding Prince Harry and Markle’s wedding. Hollywood Life previously claimed that Princess Diana will be part of their nuptials.
“Meghan has been thinking of creative ways to incorporate Harry's late mother Diana's memory into the most important day of their life and so she has been in talks with Elizabeth Emanuel, Diana's wedding dress designer,” a source said.
However, Emanuel didn’t design Markle’s wedding dress and reception attire.
Another source claimed that Prince Harry gifted Markle with a sapphire bracelet to wear on their wedding day. The sapphire bracelet previously belonged to Princess Diana.
However, the former Hollywood actress wore a different piece of jewelry from Princess Diana on her wedding day.
