Seth MacFarlane, Chadwick Boseman Set To Produce UCP's Little Rock Nine Series
A limited series about Little Rock Nine is in the works at Universal Content Production (UCP). As yet, the series has not been titled and a lot more still needs to be figured out about how the carpet will be unrolled, but what’s certain is that it’ll be produced by TV veterans Seth MacFarlane and Chadwick Boseman.
Besides MacFarlane and Boseman, Eisa Davis will executive produce the series as well as pen down the screenplay. Nick Marell, Coby Greenberg, and Joe Micucci will also serve as executive producers and Walls LaNier will be the consultant of the project.
MacFarlane and Boseman will produce with under different production banners – MacFarlane and Erica Huggins will be executive producing the series through Fuzzy Door and Boseman and Logan Coles will executive produce with X-Ception Content. Fuzzy Door is currently a part of an NBCUniversal deal.
The series is inspired by the best-selling memoir A Mighty Long Way: My Journey to Justice at Little Rock Central High written by Carlotta Walls LaNier, earlier known as Carlotta Walls. As the youngest member of the Little Rock Nine, Carlotta is the first African American female to graduate from the integrated school.
This is all set to be a historic piece set in the times of 1957 surrounding the landmark Supreme Court decision of Brown v. Board of Education. The series is timed well to show Carlotta's struggle as one of the first black students in an all-white institute. The events that turned Carlotta and her fellow black students into civil rights icons will also be cataloged in the show.
Little Rock Nine seems to be a good choice of project for the contributors in the light of ongoing events in the country. With a large number of shows turning social in their approach, it’s, in fact, a great idea to present an inspiring story of the blacks’ struggle for racial justice and equality from real life.
There is no news regarding the cast members, release date, or when the production may be kicked off. However, considering the details and easing up of lockdown restrictions in the country, it’s likely that the production may start by the end of October which will be large enough a period for the series to debut towards mid-2021.
MacFarlane and Boseman’s creative collaboration is sure to help the making of the Little Rock Nine series in more ways than just production. Their experience can be counted on.
