Jennifer Hudson Honors Aretha Franklin On Her Second Death Anniversary
Jennifer Hudson remembered Aretha Franklin on her second death anniversary. The 38-year-old star honored the iconic singer and songwriter as she took Instagram to share her deep feelings.
Franklin was known as Queen of Soul and the name of her upcoming biopic is Respect. Hudson will be playing the Queen of Soul in the biopic. She shared a throwback picture that looked power packed in black and white to her social media as she recalled the legacy of Franklin.
“Something tells me that you are walking around heaven singing all day! I know u got your mansion, far more than just standing room! Singing in the heavenly choir! Still Can’t believe we lost you 2 years ago today,” Hudson wrote on her Instagram as she posted the picture of young Franklin. She expressed her feelings further and said she truly misses her voice.
The iconic singer passed away back in 2018 at the age of 76. The singer was fighting a battle against advanced pancreatic cancer. Hudson who starred in Dreamgirls and became an Oscar award winner for her portrayal in 2006 disclosed that Franklin chose her for the biopic.
The star revealed that the biopic was under development for many years. Hudson appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show where she recalled when Franklin visited The Color Purple ongoing production work. The singer said that she has an immense amount of respect, admiration, and love for the iconic figure.
Hudson remembered the moment clearly when Franklin called her and said that the decision has been finalized for portraying her character in the biopic. The Secret Life of Bees star revealed that Franklin said she wanted her to portray Aretha Franklin onscreen.
However, Franklin warned her that she is not supposed to tell this news to anyone and it shall remain a secret. Hudson immediately said that she won't disclose even a single thing and do whatever Franklin asked her to do.
Hudson admitted being extremely shocked by the decision. However, on the release front, the biopic Respect will premiere on Jan. 15, 2021. Recently, Hudson has been involved in a social cause that helped more than 2,000 children.
The singer extended her support to distributing thousands of backpacks to children who are underprivileged. She joined Hatch Day on Aug. 14. with a group of volunteers that helped kids through D. King Gift Foundation. Hudson also shared a video to explain how different is this time and how are they helping children this year amid the pandemic.
