Meghan Markle couldn’t be happier now that she’s back in the United States.

In January, she and Prince Harry announced their decision to quit The Firm. Shortly after, they decided to relocate to Canada and stayed there for a few months.

The couple then moved to the United States in March. And in July, they transferred to their permanent house in Santa Barbara.

While speaking at a summit hosted by The 19th*, Markle talked about how things shifted devastation to inspiration following the death of the unarmed black man, George Floyd.

“It shifted from sadness to a feeling of absolute inspiration because I can see that the tide is turning. From my standpoint, it's not new to see this undercurrent of racism and certainly unconscious bias. But I think to see the changes that are being made right now is... something that I look forward to being a part of and being a part of using my voice in a way that I haven't been able to of late. So yeah it's good to be home,” she said.

Markle also talked about the toxicity in the media amid all the negative criticisms surrounding her and Prince Harry. She said that there is so much toxicity in certain news coverage.

“My husband and I talk about it often - this 'economy for attention'... what is monetizable right now when you're looking at the digital space and media. And so if you're just trying to grab someone's attention and keep it you're going for something salacious versus something truthful,” she said.

Some of the misconceptions and criticisms surrounding Markle are being addressed in Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand’s book, Finding Freedom. Several publications have also compiled some of the most shocking revelations in the book.

For one, it was revealed that Prince William and Markle’s first meeting actually went well despite all the rumors that they are at odds with each other.

"She wasn't thinking about the future king of England but her boyfriend's older brother, and one famously protective of his younger one. Meghan thought that William would no doubt want to know everything about her — and her intentions,” the authors said.

Markle also prepared herself to be grilled by Prince William. But this isn’t what happened. The Duke of Cambridge made Markle feel welcome right away.
