BBC's 'A Suitable Boy' Star Ishan Khattar Set To Star In Indo-Pak War-Based Film 'Pippa'
Bollywood star, Ishaan Khattar is set to star in the war film Pippa based on the Indo-Pak war of 1971. If anyone is wondering, Pippa is an affectionate term for a Russian amphibious war tank that played a key role for India in the war proceedings.
The film will be produced by Indian film industry veterans Siddharth Roy Kapur and Ronnie Screwvala, and film industry influencer, Raja Krishna Menon will perch on the director’s chair.
Extracting inspiration from Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta’s book The Burning Chaffees, Pippa will center around major events surrounding Indo-Pak war and the formation of Bangladesh as an independent nation.
Ishaan Khattar debuted into the film industry with 2017’s drama Beyond The Clouds, a film that gave the young actor a rocketing-start earning him a Filmfare award for the best male debut.
In 2020, the actor starred in the British miniseries A Suitable Boy that is currently airing on BBC for the UK and Ireland and will later join Netflix’s catalog for worldwide streaming excluding a few countries. For Pippa, Khattar will be the head of the cast as Captain Brigadier Balram, the leader of India's side in the war.
Both the producers, Screwvala and Kapur have served at C-level of Walt Disney India before they laid out the plans of their own companies. The veterans have a great deal of experience analyzing, directing, and producing great film stories.
Screwvala has previously produced Uri: The Surgical Strike which is India’s highest-grossing war film with earnings worth $48 million. In addition to Screwvala, Menon also carries a good war-film experience – having directed Airlift starring Akshay Kumar; the film garnered widespread critical acclaim owing to its smooth screenplay.
Menon considers Pippa – something more than just a war film. He said, Pippa is a war film featuring an “emotional” side - celebrating the victory of “love and humanity.”
The creators and contributors have displayed enormous confidence in the essence of the story. Screwvala said that Pippa tells a story that is very relevant and useful for the current generation to know and understand. Joining Screwvala in his opinion, Kapur said that the war that is being picturized wasn’t only a war between nations, it was more like a war for the protection of human lives and love.
Although there is no information, regarding who is joining Khattar in the cast, the movie is set to be released towards the end of 2021.
