The Super 8 star Elle Fanning is set to star in the Universal Content Productions (UCP) crime drama series titled The Girl From Plainville. The series, in all likelihood, may be around by next year and will be housed by Hulu.

The content of the show is based on Michelle Carter’s infamous strange case of the involuntary manslaughter of her boyfriend. The story will encompass Carter’s early years and her relationship with Conrad Roy III. After a mid-long run in the relationship, Roy committed suicide at the age of 18. Carter, then 17, was accused of pushing him to the edge with her text messages that were suicidal-thought-provoking in nature.

The case was subject to some of the most notable investigations in America’s criminal history. The screenplay will have at its center a clash between a series of efforts to prove a homicide as suicide and otherwise.

Judging by the uncommonness of the case, the series may actually be something interesting to suckers for the thrilling crime drama.

Recently, the HBO documentary interestingly titled I Love You, Now Die gave a definitive account of the texting suicide case. Therefore, it is obvious that the content may not strike some as very fresh in its quality.

However, since it’s a series rather than a documentary – a number of important changes in the themes and screenplay will be natural. Also, as a matter of fact, the documentary audience is very different from a series-wanting audience, so there is a good possibility that HBO’s documentary won’t eat into Hulu’s series’ share.

However, the series will repeat some of the contributors involved in the production of the documentary. Coming from HBO, the documentarian Erin Lee Carr and journalist Jesse Barron, both serving as consulting producers, will be providing assistance in the making of the series.

The thrilling screenplay will be under the control of The Post writer Liz Hannah and Dr. Death producer Patrick Macmanus. The series will be produced by UCP which won the rights to Jesse Barron’s 2017 Esquire crime article last year – the article gives a detailed overview of the Michelle Carter case. Alongside UCP, Fanning and Kahan Ward will serve as the executive producers. And of course, Fanning will star in the lead role as Michelle Carter

Considering the details, it’s all but clear that the UCP’s adoption of the case is a huge happening on the television. Fanning-fans can't wait to see how the actress pulls it off.
