Camilla Parker Bowles became one of the most hated members of the royal family because of her affair with Prince Charles.

Back when Prince Charles was still married to Princess Diana, he cheated on his wife with Camilla. Their affair became public even before the Princess of Wales died.

And following her demise, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall continued their romance. In 2005, Prince Charles and Camilla decided to tie the knot.

But even after their wedding, Princess Diana’s supporters continued to hate on Camilla. Over time, the public’s perception of the future queen consort changed and the royal family was instrumental in making this happen.

While speaking with You, Prince Charles’ former press secretary, Colleen Harris said that Camilla was previously regarded as an evil and horrible person. The tabloids also made tons of money by writing rude stories about her.

To counter the negativity, Harris said that the palace staff tried their best to make her more human without making her more popular than Prince Charles.

“She wasn’t shoved down the public’s throat. The palace took baby steps when it came to their public life together,” Melanie Bromley, E! News chief correspondent said.

Camilla was also praised for helping Prince Charles loosen up especially in public. Royal author Penny Junor said that the future king was quite a morose character.

However, Camilla snapped Prince Charles a lot. Now, the heir to the throne is more relaxed and he also seems less serious when he’s outdoors.

Behind closed doors, Junor said that Camilla and Prince Charles are very normal. And they also have a very normal family.

In the book The Duchess, Junor said that Camilla’s children are unfazed by Prince Charles’ future role as king.

“They’re respectful of course, but they aren’t overawed by who the Prince of Wales is, and they find the royal circus faintly ridiculous,” the source said.

Prince Charles and Camilla have also been doing an exemplary job as members of the royal family and as the future king and queen consort of Britain.

While in quarantine, the royal couple continued to perform their royal duties virtually.

This week, it was announced that they will be leading the VJ Day from the National Memorial Arboretum on Saturday, August 15.

The two-minute silence at 11 a.m. will be broadcast live on BBC One.
