Princess Charlotte has been making waves at her very young age. Aside from the fact that she is the daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton, the five-year-old royal may become the future Queen of the United Kingdom. However, she is very unlikely to get the same title as her mom.

Daily Express reported that, while Prince George, 7, and Prince Louis, 1, are likely to receive a dukedom in the future, Princess Charlotte will not be getting the Duchess title. According to the outlet, dukedoms are reserved only for male descendants of the monarch. However, a female royal will be called Duchess if she will marry a Duke.

Princess Charlotte, however, may receive another title when she grows up. She is said to inherit the Princess Royal title, which belongs to Princess Anne – Queen Elizabeth’s daughter – at the moment. The said title is only passed on to the monarch’s eldest daughter. Just like her grandmother, Charlotte is the only female of her siblings.

“It is a title that remains for life, so Princess Charlotte will have to wait at least until the death of the current Princess Royal,” royal author Duncan Larcombe told Town and Country in 2018. However, royal historian Marlene Koenig stated to Hello! Magazine that gender-equal succession could change Charlotte’s fate.

For starters, Princess Charlotte is the second child and only daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton. She is fourth in the line of succession to the British throne.

In a separate report, Daily Express claimed that Princess Charlotte is known as Charlotte Cambridge at school. Though the full title of the little royal is Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, she does not carry her the “Your Royal Highness” when in the Thomas’ Battersea School classroom.

The daughter of Kate Middleton and Prince William is said to be just another child to her classmates. This, according to reports, is to ensure that Princess Charlotte would grow as a normal child and as a student. Her brother Prince George is, also, known as George Cambridge at school. Prince Louis, for his part, will be called Louis Cambridge, while their cousin, Archie Harrison, is expected to use his surname, Mountbatten-Windsor, at school.

Meanwhile, Kate Middleton will have a new title the moment Prince Charles becomes the King of the U.K. The sister of Pippa Middleton is said to be given the Duchess of Cornwall title, which is held currently by Camilla. Prince William, on the other hand, will be the new Prince of Wales.
