‘Harry Potter’ Star Jason Isaacs Opens Up About His Drug Addiction And How It Started
Harry Potter star Jason Isaacs recently opened up about an unpleasant and frightening stage of his life, noting that he had a "decades-long love affair with drugs." Moreover, he divulged details about his struggles with drug addiction and much more.
The 57-years-old English actor and producer made his appearance on The Big Issue on Aug. 3 for an interview. Aside from making several other revelations, as part of the publication's popular "Letter to My Younger Self" series, Isaacs admitted that he dealt with addiction for a long time, describing the dark time in his life as having a "love affair with drugs."
Noting that he always had an addictive personality, Isaacs admitted that by the time he was 16, he had already surpassed drinking and was on the verge of starting a long affair with drugs. He attributes his past actions to a burning need for being as far from thinking, conscious, and feeling person as possible, adding that no message would get through him for about twenty years.
He claims he first got drunk when he was just 12, and the experience triggered an addiction problem. The Rosemary's Baby actor recalled that a barman, who they thought was a hero at the time, and now realize belonged in prison, brought them a full bottle of Southern Comfort and they drank the entire bottle in the toilet before joining the party and reel around farcically.
Isaacs remembers the incident when he vomited, fell on pulling down a massive curtain, snogged a girl, ran into the street before vomiting again, and smashing his head open on the pavement with blood gushing all over his clothes. When he woke up the next morning, Isaacs said he had a headache and was stinking of puke and all he could recall was having shamed himself.
Despite the bad experience, Isaacs told The Big Issue that he couldn't wait to do that again, although he had no idea why. The actor recalls wanting to chase the ecstatic joy he experienced that joy for another twenty years, but with more dire consequences.
Just before he got clean, Isaacs said there was a stage in his life when he realized that he wouldn't mind if everybody he knew died, adding that he would actually like it because it gave him an excuse to sit in a room and take drugs. Much to his relief, he realized that wasn't true and never was, The Sun reported.
