The Chicks Congratulated Taylor Swift, Also Loving 'Folklore'
American country pop group, The Chicks, took to Twitter how they love Swift’s new album “Folklore” and congratulated her. Swift herself, who happens to be a fan of the senior band, instantly responded to the compliment with a hilarious “GIF meme” shouting “I love you” from a holiday film characterized by Will Ferrell.
Just like Swift, The Chicks has released their eighth studio album on July 17 this year. The release is the group’s first album in fourteen years by Columbia Records, produced by Jack Antonoff under their band’s new name. The album has been receiving positive reviews from fans introducing three singles: “Gaslighter,” “Julia Calm Down,” and “March March.”
More of The Chicks
The Chicks is a music band originated in Dallas, Texas consisting of singer Natalie Maines and instrumentalist sisters Martie Erwin Maguire and Emily Strayer. They first formed in 1989 as the Dixie Chicks in their country of origin and performed different types of genres, including busking and touring on festivals and small events for six long years without enticing a significant label. The Chicks attained commercial success in 1998 after their lead singer left the group and shifted to their repertoire. Along with this success are hit songs “There’s Your Trouble” and “Wide Open Spaces.”
As reported in Republic World, the group was banned seventeen years ago due to a controversial statement released by lead singer Natalie Maines on a stage in London. Maines stated during that time that they are ashamed because the president then was George W. Bush, who is from their home state, Texas. After this event, the band was immediately blacklisted, and their music was banned on radio stations. The band’s move made loyal fans start a protest by burning their CDs.
The band appeared on the Ellen Show, and during their interview, Maines thinks that what was said back then no longer matters at the present because the past is incomparable to what the people say today. She also believes that everyone can say whatever they want, even if it can destroy people’s lives quickly. The rest of the group members acknowledged this statement and felt that they needed that break due to exhaustion.
On the brighter side, The Chicks are back with their first-ever single, “Gaslighter,” written by all the members. Their lead singer’s divorce inspires the song from her longtime husband, actor Adrian Pasdar which was made official in December 2019. It was said in Rolling Stone that Adrian Pasdar has tried to block the release accounting to the bitter lyrics of the song. However, it has received 3.2 million hits in just a week and is available on YouTube.
