Netflix has been on fire lately producing all-encompassing movies ranging from drama to documentaries. The streaming platform has come to France this time to kick off the work on a brand new action-comedy The Last Mercenary.

The film will star Jean-Claude Van Damme in the lead role as a retired secret service agent who has to tackle a blunder. In the supporting roles are Alban Ivanov, Assa Sylla, Samir Decazza, Patrick Timsit, Eric Judor and Miou-Miou. The star cast is experienced, having plenty of experience creating prolific movies.

The Other Side of The Tracks director, David Charhon will have the helm of direction in his hands. The movie will be produced by a set of producers including Nicolas Manuel (Forecast Pictures), Vlad Riashyn (Apple Tree), and Jean-Charles Levy among a string of others.

Van Damme is a new player when it comes to action-comedy having done a lot of action and martial arts in movies such as Bloodsport and Cyborg but nothing much in comedy. The actor seems is excited to work alongside David Charhon and new generation talented artists.

A die-hard fan of Jean-Paul Belmondo, Van Damme is prepared to ‘take up the torch of action-comedy’ from him. Jean-Paul Belmondo is one of the biggest French stars of his generation and his influential persona in action-comedy is second to none. Jean-Claude on Jean-Paul's path is an unmissable treat for movie-nuts.

The Last Mercenary is not just an addition to the Netflix catalog – in fact, David Charhon has a wholly different aspect in his mind.

Discussing the movie with the media, Charhon stated, “I want to return to the great tradition of action films of the ’80s and ’90s – those cult films we all love where the heroes were out of the ordinary, the stunts were all more impressive and truer than life, and all punctuated with humour. Only Jean-Claude could embody this unparalleled golden age of cinema.”

A little portion of the plot has been revealed – Jean-Claude’s son is falsely accused by government for illegal possession of arms and drug trafficking. To his rescue, Jean-Claude must run back to France urgently and bring down the curtain on the case.

The city has got a mafia gang operating in the background, so a great deal of Jean-Claude-typical action sequence is totally inevitable. Blending the action with comedy, it’ll be one great opportunity for Jean-Claude fans to see him in an avatar distinct from his previous films.
