Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, on Tuesday evening (July 21), refused to participate in a discussion about a federal clampdown to help the city fight violence, saying she does not want to allow Donald Trump to strike terror into the city’s residents by sending in federal troops. Much to her chagrin, when Lightfoot shared Twitter message, nearly 14 people were shot outside a funeral home on the city's South Side around the same time.

On top of that, numerous other shootings occurred in the other areas in the city as well. Taking to her Twitter handle, Lightfoot said she will under no circumstances let Donald Trump come to the city and petrify its residents, adding that the city does not welcome dictatorship. The mayor also included a newspaper interview.

As soon as reports about the funeral home shootings surfaced, Lightfoot guaranteed that those behind the misdeed will be punished. In one of her tweets, she pointed out that there are too many guns are on the streets of the city and in the hands of people who shouldn't possess them, adding that these people will be held accountable.

She urged people with information on this incident to come forward or provide an anonymous tip at cpdtip.com. The police suggest a fast-moving vehicle shot the victims around 6:30 p.m. local time, and some of the condolers shot back at the vehicle, which crashed down the block.

The victims were in critical condition when they were rushed to five hospitals. According to the Chicago Tribune, police have arrested at least one person, but haven't revealed the motive or details about whether or not the shooter and the victims knew each other. The funeral was of a 31-year-old man who was shot the last week.

Earlier this week, Trump said he would send federal forces to Chicago. Responding to his remark, Lightfoot told MSNBC she would not let allow a dictatorship in the city, a reference to controversy-plagued tactics adopted by federal agents that were sent into Portland, Ore to suppress rioting. She also said the city will work alongside the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives to minimize violent crime, the Tribune reported.

Talking about the aforesaid agencies, Lightfoot said they have been in the city for decades with ongoing cases that they are investigating. Cities usually work alongside federal agencies on cases that involve drugs or violent crimes. Arnita Geder, who lives near the funeral home said she heard gunshots and when she went out, she saw bodies laying everywhere.

Geder told the Sun-Times that they first thought it was a war outside, adding that the ridiculous shooting going on in the city needs to stop. Lightfoot said Chicago appreciates the actual partnership with the federal government, but do not welcome dictatorship, authoritarianism, unconstitutional arrest and detainment of the city's residents.

She went on to say that the city would go to court if the federal government deployed unnamed federal special secret agents into the streets of the city in an attempt to detain innocent people. Aside from that, Lightfoot warned that the city will not allow the secret agents to take people's civil rights and liberties away without due process, alluding again to Portland.
