Melania Trump Speaks With Sophie Grégoire Trudeau Following Her Recovery From Coronavirus
The first lady of Canada, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau and first lady of the United States, Melania Trump got together in a distinctive, intimate way primarily associated with the first ladies.
The White House released a statement on Thursday saying, Melania Trump spoke to Sophie Grégoire Trudeau over the phone, just days after she revealed that she has fully recovered from the coronavirus. Melania expressed her wishes for Mrs. Grégoire Trudeau’s good health, following her recovery from the deadly virus last month.
The first lady also re-affirmed her appreciation for the unceasing cooperation between the U.S. and Canada to handle the unprecedented challenges faced by the world due to the pandemic. Grégoire Trudeau tested positive for the coronavirus on Mar. 12, but on Saturday she said she had recovered from COVID-19.
While quarantined, she lived with her husband and their kids at home, though they hadn't contracted the virus. Between then and now, the PLOTUS has made a public service announcement, tweeted some encouraging message and even participated in a call to Spain. As expected, the call with Grégoire Trudeau quickly turned to business.
The U.S. President re-emphasized the importance o having "strong economic ties" between the two countries, despite the recently implemented "restriction on cross-border travel related to non-essential travel," Vanity Fair reported. It is worth noting that the border will still be open to essential workers, as well as daily trade in goods worth $1.7 billion.
They also discussed the multilateral repatriation attempts to bring Americans, as well as Canadians home various places including cruise ships around the world. While speaking to Mrs. Sophie Grégoire Trudeau of Canada, Melania Trump agreed to stay in touch as the two countries leave no stone unturned in a bid to overcome challenges posed by the pandemic.
In March, President Trump announced the agreement that restricted non-essential travel across the American-Canadian border in a bid to minimize the spread of the virus. Johns Hopkins University data suggests the coronavirus has already affected people in 180 countries.
During the phone call on Thursday, the first lady and Grégoire Trudeau also spoke about the travel restrictions. On April 2, Melania Trump took to her Twitter handle to announce that she spoke with Mrs. Sophie Grégoire Trudeau of Canada, and her tweet garnered mixed reaction with Twitter user @MsCarmenDelia saying "you are such a wonderful First Lady," while another user @nicolejames accusing her of lying about being able to speak French.
