As for Saul, he's working as a National Security adviser while Carrie is overseas. He is doing whatever he can to keep the peace and ensure the safety of people around the world. While it's a difficult job, Saul is ready and excited about it.

In a report via TVLine, executive producer Alex Gansa revealed there's a lot of tension between the two. There would be conflicts, as well as trust and loyalty issues. But their story will be resolved in the final season. However, it remains to be seen whether or not the series ends on a happy note.

As to why the series is ending, Gansa said the decision to end it after eight seasons happened after season 5. He noted that although the show was incredibly profitable for everybody, they also recognized they didn't want to outstay its welcome.
