Why 'Game Of Thrones' Star Peter Dinklage Didn't Want To Play Tyrion Lannister?
Game of Thrones is one of the most loved online streams for various reasons such as zombies, family drama, dragons, and so on. However, one thing that Game of Thrones did phenomenally was portraying politics.
While politics seems to be tedious for most of the people, the Game of Thrones allowed audiences to explore some great characters performed by great actors. Tyrion Lannister was one of such interesting characters portrayed by Peter Dinklage.
As Game of Thrones skyrocketed to fame, Dinklage soon became a household name. Lesser known fact, the actor refused the role at first. The storyline of the series revolved around families who want to rule the Seven Kingdoms.
The elders of the respective families are shown trying hard in every season to get their children on the throne and be the ruler. The family of Tyrion, the Lannisters seemed to be quite victorious at it. In the major part of the series, audiences witnessed Lannisters on the throne.
However, they have proven to be unsuccessful or dreadful at the ruling. Throughout the series, Tyrion was supposed to do everything while the actual person on the throne does nothing constructive. The quality of Tyrion staying active on the field made audiences fall for his character.
The traits showcased by the character throughout the show is a rare combination. The character is funny, nice, practical, and smart enough to anticipate political moves. According to Mental Floss, the actor was excited about the series as he loved the storyline.
However, Game of Thrones is a fantasy drama that spooked him initially. The actor was concerned that he might have to wear pointy shoes and keep a long beard but then the creators guaranteed him that this world is going to be different.
Primetime Emmy Award winner who suffered from achondroplasia revealed that he was cautious about his look because often fantasy show’s creators treat dwarves differently. Dinklage disclosed that his guards were up.
However, the 51-year-old actor was assured by the makers that the character isn't a stereotyped dwarf. In fact, the character is pretty complex who is shown making love, smart, enjoying wine, and does everything like a regular person.
The actor got convinced and agreed to portray the character. Tyrion turned out to be strong character who survived every situation with his wit and intelligence. Eventually, Dinklage bagged three Emmy awards for playing Tyrion in Game of Thrones.
