Even before Me Too Movement, people are aware that there are problems underneath Hollywood. There are female celebrities who are unable to sustain their careers in the long run. Charlize Theron opened up about her struggle being a female in the glamorous business.

Theron started her career in action movies such as The Italian Job and Reindeer Games in the early 2000s. However, she established as a leading lady in 2005 with Æon Flux. It was a Sci-fi action film adapted from MTV animated series.

However, the movie failed to get the expected box office collection and criticized heavily. As a result, the doors of the action genre started to close on Theron. The 44-year-old actress had to take up supporting roles in movies such as Hancock starring Will Smith.

While Theron played the love interest of Smith, there were hardly any action scenes designed for her. Things changed when she was featured in Mad Max: Fury Road. Although the title role was portrayed by Tom Hardy, fans fall in love with Furiosa's character portrayed by Theron.

Critics loved the movie and praised the actress' performance. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Theron revealed that she is trying her best to star in action movies but nearly misses the opportunity.

Theron explained the mindset of the creators in Hollywood regarding female action stars. The actress told that if there is a female lead doing the action and the movie doesn't work then simply don't work on it again. On the other hand, men keep getting second chances even if their movies don’t work at first.

In the past couple of years, Theron has been seen playing a savage and sensual role in Atomic Blonde and portrayed Cipher's character in The Fate of the Furious. Both movies were released in 2017, which made headlines for the actress’ comeback in the action genre.

However, the actress is looking forward to the respective sequels. Atomic Blonde 2 is under development stage and it is expected to stream on Netflix soon while Fast & Furious 9 release date has been pushed to 2021 because of coronavirus pandemic.

Theron has been a part of six movies in the past two years and been an integral part of the projects. It seems the actress is working hard to reject what Hollywood has to offer in general. Theron's latest movie released on July 10, The Old Guard is currently streaming on Netflix.
