Chance The Rapper Comes Under Fire From Netizens For Supporting Kanye West's Presidential Bid
Both Donald Trump, and his opponent Joe Biden is gearing up for the impending election and while it remains to be seen which of the two candidates emerge victorious in U.S. Presidential elections, Chance The Rapper decided to endorse a different candidate for the presidential election - Kanye West. Yeezy recently announced his 2020 presidential run, much to the surprise of his massive fan base.
A loyal member of West's G.O.O.D. Music imprint, Chance took to his Twitter handle to retweet a song dubbed DONDA, featuring West's mother, the late Donda West. The rapper released this video on his mother's birthday. The video shows her reciting KRS1 lyrics.
In the comments sections of the retweeted video, Chance decided to add his commentary. "And yall out here tryna convince me to vote for Biden. Smfh," he wrote. But much to his chagrin, the Twitterverse wasn't pleased with his response, and things got even worse when the 27-year-old posed a question to those criticizing him about their stance on the United States democracy.
Chance tweeted a question to his critics, asking whether or not they were pro two-party system. He followed this tweet with another question if Twitterati were bigger supporters of Biden, or anti-West, and why. He also noted that a lot of people on the platform would claim they just want to replace Donald Trump, but he asked them what made them think Joe Biden was a better choice.
While several folks on the platform argued that Biden was a better option to replace Trump as president than West, Chance refused to agree, arguing that West has done more for the Black community than either of the aforesaid candidates. West has promised to make affordable housing available, along with more support for education in Chicago.
Chance claims if West won the presidency, his focus is likely to expand to the country. Several states require petitions signed by thousands of supporters to be listed on the ballot as a presidential candidate; however, West had not filed any formal paperwork for his presidential run, and even missed deadlines for New York, Illinois, and several other states, Billboard reported.
Chance tweeted another message noting that he understood that people trust Biden more than West, adding that he realizes why. He concluded the tweet saying, he didn't feel the same way as those preferring Biden over the rapper.
He also started a public poll on the matter of reparations, which garnered about 129,000 total votes, with over 67 percent of Twitteratis voting yes. Chance responded to the result of the poll saying he was disappointed.
