Thandie Newton Calls Tom Cruise A Dominant Individual
Thandie Newton is one of those rare celebrities who is known for maintaining a balance between their personal and professional life. Newton has been a part of several smashing blockbusters and yet managed to stay secretive about her personal life.
The actress revealed her experience working on one of the most successful franchise of Hollywood, Mission: Impossible 2. Newton spoke about her co-star Tom Cruise in the movie and called him an extremely dominant individual.
In an interview with Vulture, the 42-year-old actress revealed that she scared of the 58-year-old actor during the shoot. “I was so scared of Tom. He was a very dominant individual. He tries super hard to be a nice person. But the pressure. He takes on a lot.”
Newton portrayed Nyah Nordoff‑Hall’s character in the movie, who is a love interest of Ethan Hunt played by Cruise. The actress recalled being in Spain with Cruise and the actor got "frustrated" while performing a scene as it allegedly wasn't written well.
The Westworld star explained that Cruise wasn't happy with what the actress was doing as she had really dull dialogues and that made him extremely exhausted. Eventually, the actor decided to exchange the lines to make it sound better but technically that made things even more annoying for him.
Newton said that it made her feel insecure and terror, which was a shame. However, she has all the good words to say about Cruise as she understands that he was just trying to get the best out of those lines. In fact, she spoke with the late director Jonathan Demme about Cruise being stressed about the scene and how she feels about it.
Demme encouraged her to trust in her own work and realize that Cruise wants her to be an "Alpha B*tch". While it took a long time and struggle for the actress to get the scene correctly as per Cruise, it remained an "extraordinary" experience in her career.
Even a few years back, Newton decided to disclose Cruise's kissing ability. The actress revealed that it took way too much effort to get the kissing scene right as it was wet and icky.
In an interview with The Guardian, the actress spoke how dozens of people are there on the set while a kissing scene is being shot. Additionally, she explained how the actors can't kiss hard because their lips get spread and it looks bad on screen.
