Charlize Theron Disappointed With 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Prequel
Mad Max: Fury Road was released in 2015 and it won six Oscars that galvanized not only audiences but also critics. While there is no news when audiences can expect a sequel but definitely fans can expect a prequel.
Surprisingly, Charlize Theron won't be a part of this prequel. Director and producer of the movie announced that prequel is already under development and initially they considered involving Theron but dropped the idea.
George Miller revealed in an interview with The New York Times, how much he wanted to use de-aging CGI on Theron to make her look younger for the prequel character but then the idea didn't turn out well. The creator made several attempts while shooting for The Irishman, but he decided to go ahead with new cast.
“I think there’s still an uncanny valley. Everyone is on the verge of solving it, [in] particular Japanese video-game designers, but there’s still a pretty wide valley, I believe,” the director added. As per Miller, even before the Mad Max: Fury Road was shot in 2015, his team has already worked on the prequel script.
However, Theron responded to the recasting of the movie and said how tough it was for everyone. The Bombshell star disclosed her disappointment openly and said that rarely women get another chance in the business while men keep getting many chances even after their films fail at the box office.
The Golden Globe Award-winning actress praised the director while also admitted that it is a tough decision to digest. She went on applaud Miller after working with him on the Fury Road and called him a master while wishing him success for his next venture.
While the actress is heartbroken with the news, she is thankful for being a part of creating such a fascinating character. Considering fans’ reaction regarding replacing the Theron, people reacted disappointed on Twitter and wondered how other creators cast their actors even though they have aged.
One of the fans wrote that it will be disturbing to see the new cast portraying the same characters again, it would have been better to see old Theron instead. The fan went on and said that put right make-up and hair on the actress and she will again look like a 20-year-old.
Another furious fan wrote that when a 47-year-old actor Joe Pesci can play Tommy DeVito's character who is 25-year-old then why can't Theron? However, the official announcement of the prequel cast is pending with the creators.
