David Schwimmer Talks About 'Intelligence' With Co-Star Nick Mohammed
Intelligence is the latest show that will stream across the United States since July 15. The show features some well-known faces and it will be available on Peacock, which is a division of NBC Universal streaming service.
The storyline of Intelligence revolves around Government Communications Headquarters in the United Kingdom and David Schwimmer will be seen portraying Jerry Bernstein as an NSA agent. Schwimmer travels to the U.K. with his cybersecurity team while he belongs to the United States.
Bernstein's character is extremely pompous, arrogant, homophobic, narcissistic, and racist who considers himself being an "Alpha Male". However, Schwimmer described Bernstein as a patriotic person because he is unable to speak any other language and has never left his country, ever.
The Friends fame told Fortune and his co-star Nick Mohammed who is also a show creator and plays Joseph Harries’ character who is a systems analyst, “I think it’s an opportunity to have a laugh at and really examine this kind of person and this kind of power dynamic that exists.”
The 53-year-old actor further explained that it is about a group of people who are misfits to stay together but for the sake of national security they have to stay around each other. The creator of the show took it further and explained how he thought about this set up while keeping it different from other sitcoms that show workplace issues.
Mohammed revealed that the characters in the show are going through some difficult and tragic things in their respective lives but still there are birthday celebrations, Christmas parties, retirement drinks, and much more. The "juxtaposition" is what makes it interesting for the creator and in fact, there will be a lot of cultural clash between the characters.
While Government Communications Headquarters works in a secret environment, Mohammed disclosed that the team of writers had enough room to play around with people's expectations regarding the inside of such an organization. However, the viewers will enjoy some great absurdities that will be involved with the deep reality.
Mohammed told that there are so many things they had to leave outside the sitcom, which was close to reality otherwise viewers might feel that the show has been "overwritten". The series came into existence after Schwimmer and Mohammed decided to work together almost after a year of meeting in person as the first concept that came to their mind, never worked.
