Chris Evans Begs For A Non-Marvel Movie After 'Avengers: Endgame'
While Chris Evans made it clear that his last appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Captain America was final in the Avengers: Endgame released in 2019, fans are anticipating a surprise return of the beloved superhero with a twist.
Evans is now focusing on producing a couple of projects and playing characters that are different from a superhero. The actor revealed that he did grovel for one of the film roles. The 39-year-old actor is going to star and be an executive producer of Defending Jacob, which will stream on Apple TV+.
As per the source, Evans told that this step in his career feels like a natural way of moving forward, “If you’re afforded the opportunity to do that, you take it. Obviously I didn’t produce from the ground up. It was a project that came to me.”
Defending Jacob is based on William Landay's novel released in 2012, the story revolves around a 14-year-old boy who has been accused of murder and Evans will be seen as concerned father. The Avengers star is sure that the viewers will change their opinion about family loyalty and justice with such an amazing and engaging story.
Evans told Entertainment Weekly, that the content will make audiences even after hours of watching, force to digest and process it. As fans know that nothing is impossible in the MCU, Evans had given Captain America a backseat. It seems Evans wants to focus only on his new projects.
Apart from Marvel, Evans has been part of Knives Out in 2019 which was directed by Rian Johnson and cast that included Christopher Plummer, Daniel Craig, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Don Johnson. This movie allowed Evans to explore his talent and play something different than a person of high morals such as Steve Rogers.
The way Evans performed the character of Hugh, viewers just simply loved to hate him because of his manipulative characteristic. However, when Evans got to know the script, without any pride in being in a major part of Marvel he immediately asked for the role.
In fact, the actor confessed that he didn't even let the director speak and kept on babbling about what all he could do with this character and bring on the table. Evans admitted that he was literally begging for the role and apparently did a great job that helped movie gross $300 million at the box office.
