Katie Holmes Refused To Reprise Rachel Dawes Role In 'Batman'
Katie Holmes is popularly known as the ex-wife of Tom Cruise but she also has an impressive portfolio in her movie career and critically acclaimed actress. From Broadway productions to Dawson's Creek, the actress has a very interesting showreel.
The 41-year-old actress had played Bruce Wayne's girlfriend in DC Universe, Rachel Dawes. The movie turned out to be a huge success at the box office and even Holmes received appreciation from fans. She was approached by the creators of the movie to appear in the sequel of the film, which she turned down for a reason.
Holmes' private life has always been subject to the public interest as she dated a couple of co-stars in her career. However, her relationship with popular actor Tom Cruise grabbed the headlines. She dated Cruise since 2005 after he divorced Nicole Kidman.
Holmes and Cruise dated for a couple of weeks and soon got engaged, in fact, their daughter was born in the same year. She continued her film career even after being in a relationship and the year their romance went public, the actress got an opportunity to work opposite Christian Bale in the film Batman Begins.
Playing Rachel Dawes was a new kind of film genre for Katie Holmes and it made a positive impression on critics and fans as she had never been a part of any big-budget movie before. When the sequel was announced, The Dark Knight, many fans were expecting Holmes to reprise Rachel Dawes.
The Dark Knight became even bigger at the box office compared to Batman Begins, thanks to Heath Ledger's contribution. However, Holmes decided not to get involved in the sequel. The actress compared The Dark Knight and Mad Money scripts and decided to go ahead with Mad Money.
This was not only a miscalculation for Holmes but Mad Money couldn't get the "money" back for the creators, it flopped. It ended up costing her about two million dollars and despite she missed out on a great opportunity and a big fat paycheck because of her decision, Holmes has enjoyed a successful career in both television and movies.
Holmes got custody of her daughter, Suri after divorcing Cruise in 2012. Since then, she chose to keep her romance private and never discussed her personal life with fans or media. It is visible that Holmes did not choose the easiest way to stay in the business, certainly, she has done things in her own way.
