Donald Trump reportedly would not pay for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s security in the United States for a personal vendetta of sort. According to some reports, he was personally offended by Prince Harry’s comment that he has some blood in his hands.

On Sunday night, Trump tweeted that he has no plans of allowing the US pay for the security protection of Harry and Meghan. This, even though there was no news (not even rumors!) that Harry and Meghan wanted the United States to help fund for their security. 

"I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the United Kingdom. It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada. Now they have left Canada for the U.S. however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!” he tweeted.

The statement can be taken without a grain of salt. After all, now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are no longer official members of the royal family, the United States does not owe them anything. If they were senior members, Trump would be obliged to shoulder part of the security cots.  This actually happened when Markle flew to the United States for her baby show. Trump paid for it half and the British taxpayers paid for the rest.

However, speaking with BBC News, the royal author Angela Levin said that another angle of this rejection by Trump is that he did not like how Prince Harry lambasted him during a fake call.

“Also, I suspect he does not like the fact that Harry was caught out saying that he has blood on his hands when there was this leak on his phone, and he thought he was talking to Greta Thunberg and her father. I think if somebody calls you that, particularly if you have a nature like Mr. Trump, you feel a bit resentful about offering to pay,” Levin said.

 For their part however, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry actually do not need the US to help them pay for their security. A day after the tweet by Trump circulated, Markle and Prince Harry’s spokesperson claimed that there is already a private arrangement entered into and funded in the same, private way. Markle also never liked Trump. she once said that she would never return to America if he’s still the president. She also called him misogynistic.
