Angelina Jolie Perfect For Directing 'Captain Marvel 2'
Captain Marvel was a huge success at the box office as it grossed over $1 billion, which made it obvious that Marvel will come up with a sequel. Given that, the film was well-received by certain people but it was not the best movie produced by Marvel Studios.
The studio is making an attempt to shake things a little to get the audience’s attention hence the original directors of the movie won't direct the movie. As a result, Marvel is looking forward to hiring a new director.
In fact, Marvel is hoping to get a woman director on the board and Hollywood has no shortage of female directors. As Angelina Jolie is already a part of Marvel Cinematic Universe, she seems to be a good pick for that task.
While there were many negative reviews regarding Captain Marvel being downright sexist, there was some constructive criticism too. The first installment of Captain Marvel was directed by duo directors, Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, and no doubt, they did a decent job.
There are many Marvel movies that look similar to one another and to diversify a little, Marvel has lately tried to change things by making solo character movies unique. For instance, Captain America films are made in a serious genre while Ant-Man films are tending to be funnier.
However, Captain Marvel has been average overall. Unlike other Marvel solo movies, it didn't really stand out for the MCU fans. It seems to be a safe movie for Marvel as it can afford to take such risk being one of the biggest franchises.
Looking at the trend that is followed by Marvel, directors are hired by the studio who had already worked with them or else look for talent globally. Jolie already worked with Marvel and currently working on The Eternals.
In the past, the actress has directed some great movies to add in her portfolio such as First They Killed My Father, By the Sea, A Place in Time, etc. Being said that, her directorial movies usually receives mixed reviews from the audiences and critics.
The first movie which was released in 2017, received great reviews and available on Netflix. In fact, it also got nominated for BAFTA and Golden Globe. Considering her relationship with Marvel, fans shared their opinion on Reddit that she seems to be a great pick for this movie as movies are getting only better year by year and she could perform well in Captain Marvel 2 as a director.
