Blackpink Beats BTS After Setting New 24-Hour Viewing Record
Blackpink dropped their newest music video for the “How You Like That” track on YouTube, Friday (June 26).
With over 135 million views as of this writing, the all-girl KPop group has set the new 24-hour viewing record on YouTube, exactly a year after BTS’ “Boy With Luv,” which featured singer-songwriter Halsey, gained the title. In just 24 hours, Blackpink’s new music video garnered a record-breaking 82 million views whereas BTS’ previous record fell short only with 74.6 million views.
Millions of Blinks around the globe anticipated the new track’s music video, considering as their idols’ comeback after a year of being on hiatus. When asked about the song’s message during the pre-release Q&A, Jisoo said it aims“…to give the message of not being daunted by dark situations..” The dark situation is the terror caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced almost everyone to isolate in their own homes for a very long time.
Blackpink has ALWAYS been on top
This is not the first time Blackpink wowed everyone with their record-breaking milestones, as per Deadline. Their previous single “Kill This Love,” which was launched April 5, 2019, also became the most viewed video on YouTube in just 24-hours at the time of release.
Undoubtedly, Blackpink is considered as megastars not just in the Kpop industry but also around the globe – ranking always on top together with BTS, Taylor Swift, and Ariana Grande.
Being the most followed group on YouTube, with over 37 million subscribers, it is not hard for Blackpink to set the record. The newest track “How You Like That” is the lead single of their first full-length album to be out in September.
Truly, their avid fans, who call themselves, “Blinks”, are on the best, sending support and love to their most loved all-girl group consisting of Jeannie, Rose, Lisa, and Jisoo.
Blackpink as one of the most popular South Korean bands
For starters, Blackpink was introduced by YG Entertainment in the mid-year of 2018 with their chart-topping “Ddu-Du Ddu-du,” which, also, became the most watched K-pop Youtube video within 24-hours at the time. YG Entertainment is known for producing K-pop idols like Psy and Big Bang.
The all-girl group is, no wonder, among South Korea’s most sought and in-demand bands. The quartet was the first Kpop band who was invited to perform in Coachella 2019. Blackpink made the Coachella grounds dance and sing with them as they perform their hit songs ““Ddu-Du Ddu-du”, “Kill This Love”, and “As If It’s Your Last”.
In May, Blackpink was also featured in Lady Gaga’s newest album as a collaboration to the song “Sour Candy,” which reached the 17th spot in the U.K.’s charts just earlier this month.
Blackpink’s “How You Like That” music video was simultaneously released on YouTube and Vlive channels. Blackpink, also, performed live on Jimmy Fallon’s chat show the same day.
