Nicole Kidman worked in Australian TV and films for six years before she gained international recognition for the 1990 thriller Dead Calm. The gorgeous actress recalls how she met Tom Cruise for the first time on the set of Days of Thunder.

It seems Cruise was bowled over by Kidman’s brilliant performance and recommended her to act opposite him in the drama titled Days of Thunder. The Hollywood superstar got immense commercial and critical success for acting in films like Top Gun, The Color of Money, Cocktail, and Rain Man among others. 

The actress remembers how surprised she was after bagged this meaty role in this big Tom Cruise film out of the blue. Kidman shared this information in an interview with Yahoo Entertainment. 

Nicole Kidman went on to become one of the most renowned actresses in Hollywood of her generation. The iconic movie was directed by Tony Scott and the actress plays the role of a neurosurgeon called Dr. Claire Lewicki. Her character romances a racing star called Cole Trickle, portrayed by Cruise when the latter is admitted to the hospital after succumbing to a major injury.

The stunning actress recalls how she worked at a hospital for a few days to prepare for her role. She got the opportunity to use her native accent in the film. 

Soon, Cruise and Kidman’s on-screen romance translated into romance in real life. The duo got married barely six months after the movie was released and went on to adopt two kids together. 

The Bombshell actress admitted in 2018 that she shifted to America because she was in love and then got married. Kidman further said she has always made her choices for love, Variety reports. Things fell into place thereafter as she won four nominations at the Oscars and won one for The Hours.

The actress also said that she got married to Cruise at the young age of 22. Kidman admitted she has been reluctant to discuss her ex as she is happily married to Keith Urban, the love of her life.

The actress further stated her marriage to Cruise gave her a sort of protection against unwanted attention in Hollywood, which was years away from the famous #MeToo movement in Hollywood. 

Kidman clarified that she married young not for gaining power in the industry. Although she primarily married for love, it was a big help having a powerful person like the Mission Impossible actor as her husband. She did not have to face any incident of sexual harassment because of him. 

Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise acted in two movies together after Days of Thunder – Far and Away, an immigrant love story and Eyes Wide Shut. The duo parted ways in 2001.
