Speculations have been rife that it is Tom Cruise’s belief in the controversial Church of Scientology that led to the actor divorcing Nicole Kidman. However, there have been other theories too. 

The world was in a shock when Cruise and Kidman ended their marriage in 2001 after being married for more than a decade. The former couple had ruled the industry in the nineties with their intense romance.

Their breakup was one of the most discussed topics when the new millennium started. Yet, the Big Little Lies actress and the Top Gun star refused to divulge the real reason for them getting divorced. 

There have been several theories behind their divorce. A prominent theory being the film Eyes Wide Shut was to be blamed for their separation. Kerri-Anne Kennerley, a famous Australian media expert reportedly thinks so. 

The media personality is convinced that the duo was compelled to “overthink” and contemplate while shooting for the film. She feels when two persons are in love they should have a good time together rather than analyzing too much about their relationship.

Kennerley said Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise spent about a year and a half being psycho-analyzed by the film’s director. She thinks that could have been the beginning of the end of their marriage.

She is under the belief that the pair was spending a lot of time and energy to scrutinize their relationship. Perhaps, doing so “broke them down.” While it could be her personal opinion on the matter, the theory cannot be ruled out entirely. 

After all, the couple parted ways not long after the release of the film. While Eyes Wide Shut hit the theaters in 1999, Cruise filed for a divorce just two years later, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

Meanwhile, Kidman spoke to Oprah Winfrey at the latter’s talk show once and opened up about her divorce. She said it was a nightmare for her, particularly because she was yet to get over from her second miscarriage.

The Eyes Wide Shut actress has been candid about the agony she went through when she suffered a miscarriage while being married to the Top Gun actor, E! Online reports. The Oscar Award-winning actress was married to the Mission Impossible star from 1990 to 2001. 

She also discussed her professional, as well as, personal life in a tell-all interview with the Tatler magazine. The actress featured on the cover page and spoke about her heartbreaking miscarriage, which occurred when her relationship with the actor was on the verge of collapse. 

Another popular theory for the possible cause of the former couple’s divorce has been Cruise’s faith in the Church of Scientology. After all, many people feel it was one of the major factors why his marriage ended with Katie Holmes.
