Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Defend Themselves Against Trump's Rejection To Pay for Their Security
Even if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not said anything to the effect, President Trump believes that there is a possibility that the two will let America shoulder the $1 million-a-year bill for security for them. Trump says no way.
After the couple jetted to California in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, rumors and criticisms have spread that they will become a US liability. Reports have it that the two will ask the president for some help with regard to their security protection since they would no longer get the same from the UK taxpayers.
Their decision to step down as senior royals means that they would now be commoners and no longer have their security funded by the British. Security they still naturally need since Harry is still the grandson of the Queen and a royalty no matter what, but who will foot the bill is a big question.
Trump is putting it out there already that he won’t, or America would not at least. “I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the United Kingdom. It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada. Now they have left Canada for the U.S. however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!” he tweeted on Sunday.
His reaction is kind of premature though. A spokesperson of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle revealed that they hardly have any plans to secure the financial assistance of the President over their own security. Instead, a private arrangement has already been set up.
Trump’s statement, however, is being read to imply more than what he said. Some believe that he could have ill feelings toward the two. After all, it was only some weeks ago that Prince Harry claimed Trump has blood on his hands for pushing the coal industry. He allegedly fell for a prank call that Russian hoaxers initiated, who claimed they were the known activist Greta Thunberg. Harry said the world is being “led by some very sick people,” which can naturally be taken to be Trump.
Markle herself once called Trump “divisive,” and even said she would never reside in the United States as long as he is still the president. Unfortunately, she has to eat those words at present.
Trump never really did support the two’s decision to leave their posts as senior royals. He said he feels really sorry for the Queen over Megxit.
