Prince Harry Announces Invictus Games' Return to Birmingham in 2027, Emphasizes Deep UK Ties

Prince Harry has announced the return of the Invictus Games to the United Kingdom, with Birmingham set to host the event in 2027. This decision underscores the Duke of Sussex's enduring connection to his homeland, even as he and his family establish their lives in the United States.
"Birmingham holds a special place for us emotionally," Prince Harry stated. The city is home to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the primary destination for British soldiers wounded in overseas conflicts. Reflecting on the significance of this location, he noted, "A lot of these guys, they woke up in Birmingham after being blown up in Afghanistan."
The announcement follows the conclusion of the 2025 Invictus Games, held in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada. This year's event was notable for being the first to feature winter sports, expanding the scope of the Paralympic-style competition founded by Prince Harry in 2014. The Games have previously been hosted in London, Orlando, Sydney, The Hague, and Düsseldorf.
Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, joined Prince Harry for the opening ceremony in Vancouver and accompanied him to Whistler for three days. Her involvement with the Invictus community dates back to shortly after the Orlando Games in 2016. She’s been "a part of this community since shortly after Orlando in 2016," Prince Harry acknowledged.
During her time in Canada, Meghan actively engaged with attendees and provided exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpses on her recently relaunched Instagram account. She shared a post showcasing Canadian treats and souvenirs she brought back for their children, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3, captioning it: "A taste of Canada and The Invictus Games for our little ones! Cheering you [Harry] on from home!"
Meghan's return to Instagram at the start of 2025 has been marked by a series of personal and promotional posts. Among them is the announcement of her upcoming Netflix series, "With Love, Meghan," set to premiere on March 4. The show features a slew of the duchess' famous pals, including The Office star Mindy Kaling, her former Suits co-star Abigail Spencer, as well as 'fellow polo wife' Delfina Blaquier, wife to the Duke of Sussex's pal Nacho Figueras.
The series was originally scheduled for release on January 15 but was postponed due to the California wildfires. Meghan explained the decision, stating it was made "as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California."
In addition to her Netflix venture, Meghan has rebranded her luxury lifestyle company, previously known as American Riviera Orchard, to "As Ever." This relaunch aims to encompass a broader range of products and experiences. "As Ever essentially means as it's always been," Meghan explained in a close-up Instagram video filmed in the Sussexes' Montecito garden. "If you've followed me since 2014 with The Tig, you know I've always loved cooking and crafting and gardening—this is what I do."
Documents suggest that As Ever will offer a diverse array of products, including jams, textiles such as tablecloths and napkins, skincare and haircare products, as well as household items like candles and diffusers. The brand also plans to feature gardening tools and kitchenware.
