Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were left with no choice but to leave Canada to steer clear of paying taxes in two countries. In January, both the Duke, as well as the Duchess of Sussex decided to leave their senior member positions in the royal family.

Following their announcement, the duo made a quick exit to Canada, where they spend their Christmas break. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned after they relinquished their royal titles. While people thought they'd be staying there permanently, a source revealed that the couple was living in a remote compound in Los Angeles.

While talking to The Sun's Executive Editor Dan Wootton, an insider revealed the real reason behind their migration to the United States. According to the source, Prince Harry and Markle planned to live in Canada; however, they were forced to stay in her country citing financial factors.

The duo's original plan was to stay in a Commonwealth country i.e. Canada. Both Harry and Meghan were planning to earn their own money, without hampering their royal duties. “But their plan very quickly fell apart," the source said.

Getting Canadian work visas would be near impossible for them, given that Meghan was still a US citizen and needs to pay tax for her global income. In short, Meghan would have to pay taxes not only in the United States but also in Canada. On top of that, the Canadian government didn't agree to pay for their security.

Experts say Markle needs to reveal the income earned from her self-employment, as well as the merchandise sold and even sponsored social media posts while shelling out a whopping 15.3 percent fee to cover her social security and medicare taxes. Aside from that, she would need to meet disclosure requirements to the United States Internal Revenue Service on bank accounts outside the country.

According to an IBTimes report, Meghan Markle, and Prince Harry will need U.S. President Donal Trump's authorization for diplomatic protection, given that they are already in the country. The United States President usually provides diplomatic protection to the royals every time they visit the country, but both Markle and Prince Harry aren't working royals at the moment, which means, the decision depends completely on Trump's decision.

A source recently confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex went to Vancouver, Canada after stepping back as the royal family's senior members, but later left the country for the United States. If reports citing the unnamed source are anything to go by, the couple is currently in Los Angeles.
