Kelly Clarkson Wants Prenup Enforced, Does Not Want Ex To Seek Spousal Support
Kelly Clarkson is not going to let her divorce ruin her, at least financially. She wants her prenup enforced to keep all of her net worth, calculated to be at $45M.
On June 4, fans were shocked when out of nowhere, Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce from her husband, Brandon Blackstock in LA court. They had been married for seven years now, and there seemed to be no reports of them having any trouble.
But, then, one could never really know.
At present, however, Clarkson not only wants to be separated from her husband, but she also wants joint legal and physical custody of her two children. At the same time, she does not want her ex anywhere near her money.
Clarkson and Blackstock share two children, one five and one four. She wants the court to make sure their prenup is enforced and that Blackstock will be in no way able to seek spousal support.
Because determining the date of separation in California, divorce can be challenging compared to other states, spouses might still litigate over it. As of now, TMZ reported that Clarkson had listed the date of separation as “TBD.”
While there had been no news of marriage troubles, one sign that this was about to happen was when last month, Clarkson placed her Encino, California home on sale. The massive pad was almost being sold for cheap since it is listed below $10 million.
In December 2019, she also slashed a few million dollars off the price of her another property - a lakeside mansion located in Tennessee.
One would be hard-pressed to believe that she needed the cash since she has money. The singer has sold a total of 25 million albums worldwide, as well as 45 million singles throughout her music career to date.
It is not just their divorce that is messy, though. Some reports claimed that the aftermath of it would turn their lives topsy-turvy. Given the fact that they belong to the same industry and have common connections, some wonder if this can affect them professionally too. For instance, since they both have the same friends in those involved with “The Voice,” can Kelly’s place on the show vanish? After all, Brandon is her manager! Will her relationship with Blake Shelton turn sour? Because Brandon is his too!
This remains to be seen, but if splitting up is going to be personally healthier for them, the professional consequences might not even matter that much.
