Jennie and Jisoo of BLACKPINK Embrace Family-Led Independence: The Unfolding Solo Journeys
Jennie and Jisoo of BLACKPINK have chosen their families as partners for their individual activities, gradually unveiling the course of action for all four members.
On the 6th of last month, YG Entertainment (YG) announced the signing of an exclusive contract with BLACKPINK for group activities. Despite BTS's military hiatus, YG stated its commitment to fully support BLACKPINK in global-scale activities, including new album releases and mega world tours.
While YG had initially mentioned ongoing discussions about separate contracts for individual activities, they announced on the 29th of the same month that they would not proceed with additional contracts for individual activities but would warmly support them.
Having settled their contract issues with YG, BLACKPINK members have started to embark on their solo careers, with Jennie leading the way. On the 24th of the previous month, Jennie officially announced the establishment of her personal label, 'ODD ATELIER (OA),' through her social media. She expressed her intentions to begin her solo activities in 2024 under OA.
ODD ATELIER (OA) aims to be a space that creates something new and noteworthy in unexpected ways. Established last November by Jennie and her mother, OA has been a place of special affection for Jennie, as she has often expressed the significant influence her mother has had on her life.
Jisoo is known to have partnered with her brother as well. Biomom, a brand specializing in infant health supplements led by Jisoo's brother, recently posted a job advertisement under the company name 'Blissoo.'
The brand, seeking video editors, designers, and bodyguards, accompanied the job posting with Jisoo's photo, describing it as "an unprecedented meeting of artists and startups aiming to quickly expand the entertainment business domestically and internationally, garnering love from K-POP fans alongside the artist's growth."
Since their debut in 2016, BLACKPINK has hit the charts with songs like 'Whistle,' 'Boombayah,' 'Playing with Fire,' 'Stay,' 'As If It's Your Last,' 'DDU-DU DDU-DU,' 'Kill This Love,' 'How You Like That,' 'Lovesick Girls,' and 'Pink Venom,' receiving immense love both domestically and internationally.
Moreover, they have set numerous records, including being the first K-pop girl group to achieve double million-seller status, topping the U.S. Billboard 200, and drawing an audience of 1.8 million in the largest-scale world tour for a K-pop girl group. Besides group activities, solo tracks like Jennie's 'SOLO,' Lisa's 'LALISA,' Rosé's 'On The Ground,' and Jisoo's 'FLOWER' have also proven their unique influence.
Among various options, Jennie and Jisoo ultimately chose their most reliable family. While they have YG supporting their group activities, their strategy for individual activities seems to be unfolding with the support of their families, allowing them to fully express their individuality.
With Jennie and Jisoo's plans now set, attention turns to the decisions of Rosé and Lisa. The second act of BLACKPINK, starting their 'together yet separate' activities, is raising curiosity about what choices they will make and what lies ahead for them.
