Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Excluded from Royal Gathering to Honor Queen Elizabeth II's First Death Anniversary
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have reportedly not been invited to join the royal family's commemoration of the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's death at Balmoral Castle. The absence of an invitation is said to be due to the ongoing feud between Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William, over Harry's controversial memoir "Spare" and his numerous interviews criticizing the royal family.
According to multiple sources, there was no "outreach" from senior royals to the Sussexes to attend the tribute event on September 8. This is despite the couple's plans to appear in Düsseldorf, Germany, for their Invictus Games the day after. An insider told The Sun, "If they are not included in any of those plans they will find a way to mark the significance in their own way."
The event, set to be hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla, will take place at the Scottish estate. The guest list includes family members such as the disgraced Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson. Other royals expected to stay at Balmoral this year include Prince William and Kate Middleton, along with their three children, Prince Edward, his wife Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, and their two children.
The decision to allow Prince Andrew, linked to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, to attend the event was a topic of discussion. However, it's suggested that he may not interact with other royals due to the scandalous past. "There are a large number of properties around the estate so not everyone needs to stay at Balmoral Castle itself," an insider explained.
The Sussexes' last joint European appearance was for Queen Elizabeth II's funeral. Since then, they have kept their distance from the Firm, with Harry attending his father's coronation ceremony solo in May. Their upcoming trip to Germany will mark their first joint European appearance since the late Queen's funeral.
Harry and Markle currently reside in Montecito, California, with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Despite their parents' resignation from royal duties in 2020, both children hold royal titles. Representatives for the couple have not yet responded to requests for comment.
