Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, has called for term limits in the wake of Senator Mitch McConnell's recent health scare, suggesting that the 81-year-old and other senior politicians should recognize when it's time to retire. Haley's comments were made during an appearance on CBS's "Face the Nation" with host Margaret Brennan.

Earlier this month, McConnell, the Senate Minority Leader, experienced a moment of silence lasting 30 seconds during a public address. He was quickly escorted away by fellow GOP members, only to return shortly after, assuring the crowd that he was "fine." This incident, however, has sparked a debate about the need for younger leadership within the political sphere.

Haley, a potential Republican presidential candidate, expressed her support for term limits and competency tests for politicians, including McConnell. She praised McConnell's contributions to the judiciary, particularly his role in Supreme Court appointments, but emphasized the need for fresh ideas and solutions in politics.

"We've got to stop electing people because they look good in the picture or they hold a baby well," Haley said. "We've got to stop electing people because we like them and they've been there a long time. That's actually the problem."

Haley's call for term limits extends beyond McConnell, encompassing other veteran politicians such as Dianne Feinstein, Joe Biden, and Nancy Pelosi. "Know when to walk away," Haley advised. "We have huge issues that need new solutions. We need new generational leaders. We appreciate your service. We appreciate what you’ve done. But this is why we will fight for term limits. We’ve got to get it done in America."

When questioned about the absence of former President Donald Trump, aged 77, from her list, Haley clarified that her comments applied to him as well. She emphasized the need for a new generation of leadership, pointing out that Republicans have lost the popular vote in seven of the last eight presidential elections.

Haley's remarks underscore a growing sentiment within certain factions of the Republican Party, advocating for a generational shift in leadership to address the nation's pressing issues with fresh perspectives and innovative solutions.
